In this humanistic approach, Gestalt therapy aims to help the client to restore wholeness, integration and balance (Seligman & Reichenberg, 2014).
Concepts
View of Humankind-positive view, focus on self-actualization, empowering clients
Homeostasis vs. Flux- the drive to maintain homeostasis is challenged by changes happening in life.
Ego Boundary-Identification and Alienation are the two polarities of the Ego boundary, as relationships change so the ego boundary.
Integrating Polarities- the need for balance tends to make people see things in polarities good/bad, black/white, etc.
Wholeness, Balance and Integration- focus on holistic view of putting life into balance
Awareness- self-awareness and focus on non-verbal language
Nature of Growth Disorders- This terms is used to describe emotional disorders. Gestalt therapist believe that rather than growing and changing, some become stuck and avoid or reject parts of themselves
